Postdoc Anders Persson in Aljazeera about the EU and recognition of Palestine

Postdoc Anders Persson was 21 February in Aljazeera with an article on the debate of whether the EU should recognize Palestine. Under the title "If not now, when should Europe recognise Palestine?" Perssons argue, that it is high time for European states to follow Sweden's lead and recognise Palestine's statehood. The article takes it start in recent reports about a either big or modest wave of European states following Sweden's act of 2014, where they recognized Palestine's statehood. Persson points out, that much depent on what France decides to do, but also that other member states are in the process.

Persson further explains, how the EU's stand on the question has changed from its 1999 Berlin Declaration of "readiness to consider the recognition of a Palestinian State in due course" to a statement of recognition when appropriated in 2010, and finally to recent discourse that, recognition is a matter for national governments and not the EU as a whole.
